The Envelope Edit: Luxe Up Your Wedding Invitations

Your wedding invitations are one of the most exciting bits of mail you will ever send, and the absolute first impression that you get to make on your guests is…the envelope. There is something nostalgic and exciting about holding an envelope in your hands, turning it over and admiring the details, feeling the weight of what’s inside and wondering what sweet missive has been delivered from sender. I’m all about romanticising your wedding invitations as though they were old fashioned love letters or secret notes between lovers, so envelopes get to be a pretty big deal at Scribed by Sophie. These are all my favourite ways to luxe up your wedding invitations in The Envelope Edit.

Why you should luxe up your envelopes in 2026

Everything in life goes in cycles and waves and rotations, just like the seasons and the ocean waves. I think we’ve been through a digital era of couples wanting their wedding invitations to be sent in the most efficient way and turning to online inbox deliveries, but I firmly believe we’re drifting away from that again. Couples want to give their loved ones an experience, really connect with them through their weddings, and what better way to do that than to send a thick, beautifully addressed, luxurious-feeling invitation to their door - one they’ll enjoy opening as much as reading the contents.

Here are my favourite ways to luxe up your wedding invitations, envelope edit style:

  • Colours and liners

If you’ve spent much time on my Instagram page or browsing my portfolio on my website, you’re probably starting to gather that a coloured envelope and a gorgeous liner bring me a lot of joy. Sending a coloured envelope that ties in with your wedding scheme feels so much more luxurious than receiving a white one - let that be for bills and medical appointments, and embrace something in a beautiful shade to set the tone.

Helen and Mark

Envelope liners are just the most dreamy little surprise when you open the leaf to reveal them, my wonderfuls. Just look at Helen and Mark’s forest green envelopes with the delicate woodland floral illustrations on the liner - they feel high quality and opulent, and give you a perfect vision of what their wedding will look and feel like.

Elizabeth and Ajit

Elizabeth and Ajit’s invitations also made use of an ethereal coastal envelope liner, which we matched to the vellum wrap that held together all the different information cards inside. Adding another luxury element such as vellum, particularly in a matching print, is sure to make your guests feel really special.

  • Patterns and illustrations

Patterns and hand drawn illustrations are not just for envelope liners - they can work really well on your envelopes too! Imagine bringing echoes of your invitation patterns and prints onto the front of your envelope, or tiny birds, butterflies or even bats if you’re going vampire-chic! While we’re on the subject of hand drawn items…

  • Hand calligraphy addressing

I can use my signature hand calligraphy to address each of your envelopes in a complimentary colour, which is going to really elevate the design to another level. Hand written names and addresses are reminiscent of letters from eras gone by, and represent an extra level of effort that makes your guests feel really loved - doing something you don’t have to do that you know they will appreciate is love in its truest form.

  • Wax seals

I’m a little bit obsessed with wax seals, partly because they look so luxurious and partly because they can be done in so many different ways. You can make a seal feel old fashioned, regal, modern or whimsical, just by changing up the colour of the wax and the motif in the seal - you can even have your own bespoke seal designed with your initials or a symbol from your wedding. They can also be used as decor as well as being functional, and the satisfying ‘pop’ of breaking one open is a hugely tactile experience that easily luxes up your envelopes.

  • Stamps and postmarks

All authentic hand written letters have stamps or postmarks, and you can really have fun with these and theme them to your wedding. Elizabeth and Ajit married at Markree Castle in Sligo, and the theme for their wedding stationery was a beautiful blue coastal vibe - complete with several unique stamps, including ones with little shells on. We can also make your envelopes look luxuriously vintage with personalised postmarks and old fashioned stamps, designing them specifically for your wedding.

Looking for more ways to make your invitations a bit more like time-worn love letters? I’ve written a whole blog on the subject.
