How to include literary inspired wedding stationery in your wedding
If you’re an avid reader and have already fallen in love with the idea of literary inspired wedding stationery, you’ve probably quickly realised that choosing exactly how you’ll do it presents a lot of options. Here are a few directions you can go in:
Choose your favourite story and create an immersive wedding experience around it. A gorgeous example might be Alice in Wonderland - there are so many fun references you can include in all areas of your day, from setting up your wedding breakfast like the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to inviting your guests to go ‘down the rabbit hole’ with you on your welcome sign
Shortlist your favourite novels and include subtle but clever nods to them throughout the day - a bar themed for The Great Gatsby, edible favours in the form of Turkish Delight in honour of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, or little carnival tent shaped menu cards if you’re a lover of The Night Circus
You can also take a more general literary approach to your wedding, making it feel beautifully bookish without identifying specific titles - many of the ideas you’ll find below are perfect for this and can also be adapted to different stories and themes

Books for table numbers
I recently created some gorgeous hardback book table numbers for Helen and Oscar’s wedding, taking real high quality duck egg blue notebooks (complete with silky page keepers) and adding shimmering numerals. These sat pride of place in the centre of the tables, accompanied by vintage script scrolls in Beauty-and-the-Beast-style bell jars.
There are so many different ways this can be done, either all in matching styles or with unique book designs for every table. I suggest using mock books rather than actually incorporating your own novels, as dinner tables have a tendency to get a little messy as the evening goes on and I’d hate to see them stained or ruined!
Bookmarks for place names
I do have to say that place names are one of your must-have essentials in your wedding stationery suite, so why not make them book-themed and useful in one fell swoop? Beautifully designed bespoke bookmarks with your guests names on are an excellent continuation of the literary theme, and double up as being keepsake favours that your loved ones will actually take home and continue using. We can create one gorgeous design for everyone, like I did for Helen and Oscar with their floral patterned bookmark favours, or theme them per table or for different groups of guests.

Chaptered schedules and signage
What sweeter way to make your wedding feel a little more literary than to play with chapters? This can work in lots of different places, a few of my favourites being:
Invitations; give your guests an idea of the flow of the day, for example ‘Chapter 1: the ceremony at [venue]...Chapter 2: drinks on the lawn’ and so on
Order of the day; usually outlined on a large sign as your guests enter, reminding everyone of what to expect from your wedding is also a lovely place to use chapters again
Other signage around your venue works well here too, for example smaller ‘chapter’ markers to designate different areas - ‘Chapter 3: time to grab a drink!’
This can also easily be adapted if you’d love to have a wedding themed around your favourite tv shows, exchanging ‘chapter’ for ‘episode’ and running with the same ideas!
Vellum overlay ‘title pages’
It’s no secret I love a vellum overlay, and I think creating one that looks like a book cover or title page would be really beautiful. These work perfectly on your invitations, making it feel like your guests are opening up a book they’re excited to read when they receive it. A translucent cover titled ‘The Story of…[your names]’ feels really luxurious, and leans into my modern vintage vibe.
“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”

Wax seals with literary motifs
If there was ever anything that perfectly says ‘literary inspired wedding stationery’, it’s a wax seal - reminiscent of royals handwriting important missives and secret notes passed by candlelight. But we can even go one step further and stamp your wax seal with a cute literary motif! Think a tiny quill, an open book or your very own bespoke publisher’s mark.
Classic book cover welcome signs
Your welcome sign is the stationery (and stationary!) moment that connects guests with what they already know about your wedding, and what they’re about to experience. You’ve set the literary tone for the day through your invitation, and your welcome sign is your chance to re-immerse them in that theme. It’s like stepping through the wardrobe when they walk past your welcome sign, and I think of it as a real transitional and important element of your day.
Designing a welcome sign that looks like a classic book cover (real or imagined) can be visually impactful, and strongly signals the literary loveliness that awaits. We can create something that looks just like the most intricate cover of your favourite classic, or something that is reminiscent of it without being specific.

Bridgerton inspired stationery
Everybody’s favourite fictional ‘ton started life as the setting for Julia Quinn’s series of regency romance novels, so it’s basically the perfect contender to theme your wedding stationery around. Luckily for you, I’ve already identified the best stationery suites to go with all of Bridgerton’s royal residences - browse that one here, and let the inspiration spark for incorporating it into other areas of your wedding too.
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
I couldn’t agree more with Ms Austen, but designing literary inspired wedding stationery definitely comes a close second! We’re bringing your gilt edged bookshelf favourites to your wedding day, and we’re doing it in the most creative way possible - a way that history’s greatest authors would be proud of!
Until next time, my Wonderfuls!
MUCH LOVE,
Sophie
