Gothic Romance Wedding Stationery - Dark and Delicious

-Gothic romance wedding stationery-

Deliciously dark and wonderfully wicked, gothic romance wedding stationery is having a real moment, which makes me giddy in a very un-devilish way! The vibe is theatrical masquerade meets disturbingly charming vampire king, the set is (obviously) a spooky yet spectacular castle, and the assignment is clear: Scribed by Sophie classic modern vintage with a tantalising, terrifying twist. I’ve been honoured to create beautifully vampy wedding stationery for two couples now, and each time I have so much fun getting creative in a way that is so at odds with some of the pretty pastels I also often design.

So, my wonderfuls, care to get spooky with me for a while? In here it’s Halloween all year round, we’re playing with the mystical and the magical and the ever-so-possibly supernatural, and this is the gothic romance wedding stationery inspiration you’ve been looking for. Read on, I don’t bite…

Black gothic romance wedding stationery for Miriam’s wedding

When night falls, ghosts, ghouls and vampires come out to play. Miriam’s gothic wedding stationery was an ode to the witching hour, with scrumptious pitch black handmade paper menus made from luxuriously thick, soft material. Like a sky studded with mystical stars, I used a gold foil press to add the details of the feast and some art deco style borders, finished off with a little flying bat.

A blood red velvet ribbon was the perfect finishing touch to this ghastly Gatsby-esque wedding stationery suite. Take a closer look to find out what (or who) was on the menu, but don’t stay too long - once the clock strikes midnight, you never know what’ll happen next.

Vintage vampire stationery for a castle wedding

I also had the perilous pleasure of designing Juliet and Eric’s gothic romance wedding stationery suite for their vampire-inspired castle wedding in Scotland. The vibe we wanted to capture was decadence with a dangerous undertone, and the three menus I crafted for them were all in perfectly haunting harmony.

You can get lost in the labyrinthine halls of their wedding by browsing the full gallery here.

The heinous highlights of their immortally gorgeous wedding menus were:

  • A bold gothic font in a vampy red for their name cards, which were displayed in little vampire tooth holders - is it possible for something to be cute and chilling all at once?

  • Their dinner menu with signature Dracula castle illustration and archaic hand designed borders, delivering on bloody banquet vibes

  • A bespoke cocktail menu on the most divine plum coloured cardstock, with gorgeous gold details and dripping candle illustrations. Their drinks options were themed too, of course, and guests could choose to pick their poison and sip suspiciously on either a Vampire’s Kiss or a Vampire’s Bite

Tips for gothic romance wedding stationery that is terrifying tasteful, and follows a theatrical theme without being cheesy

If you love the idea of embracing a frighteningly fabulous wedding stationery suite with vampy vibes or an elevated opera hall aesthetic, here are some things to consider:

  • Think about how far you want to go with your ‘theme’ and let your stationery designer know; are we going all-out and raising the dead, or keeping it subtle yet sumptuous?

  • We can go one of two ways with your colour scheme for gothic romance wedding stationery, either leaning into what’s expected (inky black, rich red, glittering gold and cool chromes) or thinking even more outside the box. We can still create a decadent, theatrical, even spooky aesthetic with all sorts of tones including icy blues, a variety of jewel tones, even pinks if that’s what your heart desires!

  • Make sure you work with one stationery designer for your whole suite of papergoods - this is a theme that requires commitment to pull off, so set the sickening scene right from the beginning with your invitations and give your guests the gift of continuity through to the wedding day.

With that said, choose a wedding stationer whose design style suits the vampire vibe. If someone is a specialist in minimalist designs or primarily works with elegant, refined florals, consider whether you feel confident that they can create exactly what you're looking for before you say yes

If you’d love to work with me on your own gothic romance wedding stationery, I’d be delighted to help you put your own twist on this nightmarish necessity and craft something uniquely, horrifyingly perfect for you.

MUCH LOVE,

Sophie
