Castle Wedding Stationery: Vintage Vampire Romance
Castle wedding stationery
2025 is the year of the Castlecore aesthetic, and I couldn’t think of a better opportunity to fully embrace the blend of modern and vintage that has become a Scribed by Sophie stationery signature. The historic beauty of a castle welcomes wedding stationery that is contemporary and considered in design, yet plays on the antique authenticity of the venue - which is exactly what I created for Juliet and Eric when they came to me for their castle wedding stationery. Let’s get into the vintage vampire romance at their Scottish castle wedding, shall we wonderfuls?
Juliet and Eric’s Castle Wedding Stationery: The Vibe
When Juliet and Eric asked me to design the on-the-day stationery for their wedding at Borthwick Castle, we quickly found out we had many of the same ideas and got very excited about the creative process together. Their wedding venue in Scotland oozes old-world charm, and they wanted to lean into a moody, decadently spooky vibe and create each stationery piece with vampires in mind. The wedding design brief was wickedly fun and absolutely gorgeous, and I loved creating these themed place names and three sets of different menus.
Juliet and Eric’s wedding tablescape was sumptuous, just as you would expect a vampire lord’s banquet hall to be! They had vintage silverware and charger plates, crystal glassware and antique candelabras with blood red candles, and the flowers by A Curious Arrangement were predominantly maroon, cherry and peach. I knew designing this castle wedding stationery was going to be a fun project, and it definitely did not disappoint.
Castle Wedding Stationery: Place Cards
Each guest had their own personalised place name card, featuring deckled edges for a vintage feel. Names were printed in a bold gothic font in blood red, and the name cards themselves were displayed in miniature vampire teeth holders. The design made a statement with its impactful features, but was intentionally kept simple so as to complement but not compete with the other details on the tables.
Castle Wedding Stationery: Menus
I created three different types of menus for Juliet and Eric’s castle wedding stationery. The first was their dinner menu, to be displayed on each vintage silver charger plate. Headed with the word ‘feast’ in keeping with the banquet vibes, each card displayed the menu in a mix of bold gothic font and looping script in blood red. I added an archaic border, and finally the piece de resistance…a spooky vampire castle illustration, complete with flying bats.
Signature Drinks
Juliet and Eric also asked me to create drinks menus for their bespoke cocktail selection, so to differentiate these from the dinner menus I designed them with a deep plum background. Gold details made the design elevated and sophisticated, with a vintage border, dripping candle illustration and sketches of the drinks options in glasses. ‘Pick Your Poison’ was the lightheartedly sinister heading, with two themed cocktails to choose from: Vampire’s Kiss or Vampire’s Bite.
Finally, the following day Juliet and Eric held a high tea for their guests - at least, those that made it through the night at the castle! I designed another menu for this, the final element of their castle wedding stationery. This time, the colours from the wedding day were inverted - inky black font surrounded by a rust red border detailed the selection of sandwiches and classic Scottish snacks on offer.
Is the vampire vibe your cup of tea, or do you prefer vintage in the form of regency era England?
