5 Ways To Do Red Wedding Stationery: Chic From Cherry to Chilli
Red wedding stationery
The colour red is really having its moment this year and, whether you’re loving the cherry-coded trend or just a fan of flame, there’s no denying it’s swept into the wedding world with the appropriate level of audacity. Red is a gorgeous colour to use in your wedding invitations, menus and signage, bringing bold beauty as the star of the show or as an artistic accent shade. These are my 5 favourite ways to do red wedding stationery, bringing the colour of love to the most romantic day of your lives.
Red Wedding Stationery for All Seasons
A wedding at any time of the year can accommodate red wedding stationery - in the winter, sumptuous wine tones work really well, and in the spring choosing reds with pinkish undertones really lightens them up for the fresh season. Summer is the perfect time to delight in true reds and cherry tones, and the autumn cries out for more purplish undertones like crimson and burgundy. Red doesn’t belong to any one season, which makes it a fun colour to play with in different designs.
Cherry-coded wedding stationery
The first (and most on-trend!) way to bring reds into your paper pretties is by getting cherry-coded with it. This decadent fruity tone is popular at the moment, and for good reason. I love to use cherry as a main colour because it’s so deep and rich, and looks delicious with contrasting shades. The look and feel of a fine cardstock in this colour is something truly lovely, or an eye catching welcome sign with a chic cherry backdrop. Imagine the impact of a scrumptious red envelope coming through your guests’ letterboxes, making a striking statement from the very start.
Colour clashing with claret
I might be making a bold statement here, but red is a bold colour so it seems appropriate…I think red is the best shade to craft a colour clash with! A bright, true red like Mac’s Ruby Woo lipstick is energising and playful, and can be matched with zingy pinks, zesty oranges or jammy purples - if you’re a bold couple who aren’t afraid to make a statement, this is the way to do red wedding stationery that will be truly unforgettable!
Vintage vampire vibes in vermilion
Modern vintage stationery is a Scribed by Sophie signature, so of course I love to use softer shades of red to create an antiquated vibe. Rich scarlet and blood reds make really impactful accents, like in the vampire themed wedding stationery I created for Juliet and Eric’s Scottish castle wedding, and all shades of red are perfect for wax seals, silk ribbons, borders and fonts.

Amaranth as an accent for neutrals
Another lovely way to have red in your wedding stationery is to use a neutral colour palette, and add drops of ruby and carmine as daring detailing. These stationery pieces I created at Ashfield House are a great example - a soft vintage pink border on the invitation, red floral elements in the lining of the envelope, and a pale rosy red ribbon to tie it all together. These faded red tones blended beautifully with the accents of black cherry throughout the florals and fruity decor, creating a red colour palette with texture and levels of depth.
Scribed by Sophie designs that would look ravishing in red
While I was writing, I was thinking about two of my previous designs that I think would look just gorgeous in a red colour palette - if you’re feeling inspired, get in touch and chat to me about your ideas!
Ayesha and Adil’s Parisian wedding stationery was designed with classic romance in mind, with a large floral motif, deckled edges, a floral vellum cover and matching envelope liner, all tied up with a vintage rose ribbon in finest silk. The colour palette was comprised of various shades of feminine pinks, and I think it would look incredible if we made it all a little redder too! Take a look at these iconic shots in front of the Eiffel Tower, and tell me you’re not blushing thinking about your own red European wedding stationery.
I was also dreaming up a regally red alternative to this Pearls & Pears decor - imagine swapping out the sage for bold, fire engine red and replacing those pears with pearl studded peppers, strawberries, even tomatoes…all that juicy jasper colour combined with the pearls is giving me 1920s vibes - let the good times roll!.
If you’ve come this far and put up with my many different puns about the colour red, you truly are one of my people. Are you ready to get gorgeous with garnet and go bold with red wedding stationery? Let’s have some fun playing with one of the most vibrant and versatile colours out there, wonderfuls - I can’t wait to hear from you.
