Floral Wedding Stationery: Soft Vintage Blooms
Floral Wedding Stationery
Don’t you think flowers are just such a gift from nature, my wonderfuls? I always have to stop and think how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many different varieties and colours that we can use to decorate our lives, and as a real lover of giving presents they just light me up. For these reasons I love creating floral wedding stationery designs, combining my signature soft vintage style with the modern materials and techniques you’ve come to know and love. There are so many different ways to use blooms in your stationery designs, and these are just 4 of my favourites that I think you’ll love too!
Things to remember when choosing your floral wedding stationery:
Florals can be done in so many different ways, so you’ll need to narrow down exactly what it is you’re looking for in order to communicate it to your stationery designer. The Scribed by Sophie design style leans more towards gentle tones and delicate details for a feminine, elegant finish, but even within this range there are so many different ways for florals to frolic in your stationery. Consider the different colours you’d like to include, any specific flower varieties, and whether you’re looking for more of an all-over print or just a few little additions here and there. Remember, I can also collaborate with your florist if you’d like a design that feels cohesive and holistic.
Now, let’s adventure through our own little secret garden, shall we? These are 4 scrumptious ways to go full bloom with your wedding stationery.
Floral Illustrations
First up, floral illustrations or sketches take on a lovely antiquated quality when done daintily. We can use these playfully along the bottoms or edges of your invitations, menus, place cards and even signage, or they can take pride of place as the background. The vibe can be changed up by using lovely green colours to illustrate ferns, palms or tropical plants, or we can take pretty pastels and create floral meadows and summer gardens, complete with butterflies and bees flitting between the petals. One of the most wonderful thing about floral designs is that they work in almost every colour, and floral illustrated wedding stationery looks gorgeous in tonal shades, soft contrasting tones or magical multicolours.
Floral Vellum
If you recently read all about my favourite modern vintage combinations for wedding stationery you’ll know I’m a huge van of vellum - and floral vellum? Yum. Vellum wraps and overlays are such a lovely extra layer, allowing the details below to just peek through and inviting your guests to open up and enjoy what’s within. It’s like a little invitation into an enchanted wonderland, as guests pull back the florals to reveal all the details of your day. Vellum gives you the opportunity to go bold with an all-over pattern, or really light and delicate for just a suggestion of ethereal blooms hiding the gorgeousness beneath.
Floral Envelope Liners
Nothing says luxury quite like an envelope liner, don’t you agree? You can really elevate your guests’ experience of receiving a wedding invitation with a high quality, personally addressed envelope in hand written calligraphy, especially when it opens up to reveal a sumptuous meadow of florals within. I’ve crafted two designs that display floral envelope liners in totally different ways; the first, palest pink floral sketches against a neutral background and the second a rich, all-out pattern of hyperrealistic blooms. If you want to have a nod to floral wedding stationery without going too far with a theme, an envelope liner is a great option..
Monograms and Minis
Love the idea of something Mother-Nature-themed but not sure full floral designs are for you? Monograms, mini sketches and flower alternatives might be just the solution, my Wonderfuls. For this beautifully summery design at Camel Studio in Bodmin I created a print featuring olives and their leaves, and I’ve also crafted lots of lovely little monograms in the past which can be decorated with foliage, tiny flowers or even little bees and butterflies. Floral doesn’t have to mean meadows and gardens and blousy bouquets; it can be delicate, understated and vivaciously vintage - just how I like it.
