Letterpress Wedding Stationery & Other Ways To Make Your Invitations Feel More Luxury
If you ask me, your wedding stationery should feel luxurious - from the fancy envelope that lands on the doormat (or in the inbox, if you’re a bit modern like that!) to the signage that welcomes guests on the big day, down to the smallest details like the name cards on the tables. Whether your wedding is a sophisticated soiree or right-old-knees-up, your stationery is the perfect place to add luxe details to elevate it out of the realms of any other party. This is my guide to letterpress wedding stationery, and my other favourite ways to make your invitations feel just that bit more gorgeous and indulgent.
What is letterpress wedding stationery?
I love letterpress wedding stationery so much because it’s a total party for your senses - you’ve probably encountered it lots of times before, the soft indentations in the paper adding texture, depth, dimension…
Letterpress has been around for centuries, and creates a relief-style design where the letters are set into the paper. This can be done with or without ink, either for full-colour lettering or for lovely blind impressions which can really luxe up a wedding invitation. It always feels utterly decadent to run your fingers across something that has been designed with letterpress, bringing the words into a new level of loveliness. I also love the fact that letterpress still feels like a very manual, vintage way to print, which really vibes with my Scribed by Sophie values!
This isn’t the only way to make sumptuously special stationery for your wedding, though. Here are my other favorite luxury finishes that can take your invitations way beyond what paper can do:
Vellum wedding stationery finishes
You might have noticed by now that I absolutely adore vellum - there seems to be a bit of a theme here, because all my favourite finishes involve a tactile element! The soft, silky touch of vellum is one of the most delightful things about it, as well as the many ways it can be used to give just an exciting hint of what’s inside.
Vellum wraps are really lovely to hold multiple pieces of stationery together; for example, you may wish to send an invitation, an RSVP card and an extra details card all together to your guests, and they can be lovingly packaged in a gorgeously designed, soft-touch wrap. We can also work with overlays, which often look lovely on menu cards or even name cards. With overlays we can either create patterned vellum which sits atop the detail below, or single-colour vellum which contains something like a name and lays over the top of a patterned card beneath - the possibilities for different ways to use this medium are endless and exciting, and really make your stationery feel high-end.
Silk ribbons for wedding stationery
Another one of my absolute favourites, my wonderfuls! Silk ribbons - I’ll add them to your stationery at any opportunity I get, because I think they give such a wonderful modern vintage edge to your designs and something else to touch! They’re also lovely little things for your guests to keep and reuse in different ways, which kind of makes them gifts in their own way.
Silk ribbons can either be an additional finishing touch or the main event of your invitations, menu cards, place cards and so on. Creating a design centered around a big, luxurious silk ribbon is such a feminine, lovely way to go with your stationery, and still on-trend since it burst into our lives last year!
Luxury envelope liners
I’ve spoken before (quite a few times!) about how much I love envelope liners, and they are one of the loveliest ways to add a little luxury to your wedding stationery. Opening up an invitation and being greeted with a specially designed liner really makes your guests feel special, and for me that’s one of the most wonderful things about sending paper post!
Bespoke illustrations on wedding stationery
There’s no better way to make your wedding stationery completely and utterly personal than by commissioning your designer to create a bespoke illustration - perhaps of your venue, or some floral patternwork, even your pet. Bespoke really says ‘luxury’ to me, and an additional touch like this really compels your guests to want to hang onto their invitations afterwards too!
As well as all these luxury extras, I always ensure your wedding stationery is lovingly packaged up to send to you. I absolutely adore gifting and wrapping things beautifully, so getting everything ready to post is one of my favourite parts of the process. My hope is that the experience will feel luxurious for you and your guests from start to finish.
